Financial Controller

We are excited to partner with a well-established construction firm in Watford that is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join their team. This is a full-time, office-based role offering a salary of £50,000 - £65,000 per annum .

Location: Watford

Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (1-hour lunch)

About the Role:

As Financial Controller , you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the business group. Working closely with the CEO and MD , you will take full ownership of the finance function, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

Finance Team Leadership:

  • Manage and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of accuracy and efficiency.

Cashflow & Credit Control:

  • Oversee credit control across the business.
  • Manage cash flow , ensuring timely authorisations and reporting to the CEO.
  • Handle supplier and subcontractor payment chasers , ensuring effective communication.
  • Process payments across the business .

Financial Reporting & Audits:

  • Prepare and oversee management accounts , ensuring constant accuracy.
  • Audit and guide the team on any posting discrepancies .
  • Work with the CFO on year-end audits .
  • Manage cost centers , ensuring proper allocation and reporting for the CEO.

HMRC Compliance:

  • Prepare and submit VAT returns quarterly.
  • Submit CIS returns monthly, ensuring compliance.
  • Ensure correct allocation of HMRC payments.

Invoice Factoring & Payroll:

  • Oversee the invoice factoring facility , ensuring smooth daily management.
  • Prepare monthly board reports for the CFO.
  • Oversee payroll processing and sign off on payments to employees.

Who Is Our Client Looking For:

Qualified - Must be ACCA or CIMA qualified .

Experienced Leader - Previous management experience within a finance function.

Hands-On Approach - Willing to dig in and take ownership of financial operations.

Strong Communicator - Ability to work closely with senior management and external stakeholders.

Proactive & Reactive - A problem-solver who can anticipate challenges while adapting to urgent financial matters.
